The Maratha community, “Maratha Kranti Morcha” on 9th August 2017, carried out a huge protest rally. It began at around 11 a.m. at Byculla, and ended approximately at 5 p.m. at Azad Maidan. This might be the last rally for the Maratha Community. The organizer of Maratha Morcha has demanded Justice for the teenage Maratha girl who was raped by three Dalit men in Ahmednagar District in July, last year and demanded reservation in jobs and education for the Maratha Community.
On Wednesday afternoon, Devendra Fadnavis (Chief Minister) and Chandrakant Patil (Revenue Minister) met the delegation of Maratha leaders and assured them that action would be taken on their demands.
Fadnavis told the legislative assembly that the Maratha students would get the same facilities and subsidies that are available to the Other Backward Class (OBC) student. Additionally, Maratha Students would be eligible for scholarship and admission to more than 600 courses. The government would build a hostel for Maratha Students in each district and 300,000 jobs would be created. He also announced that the cut-off for student scholarship for Maratha students would be reduced from 60 to 50 percent.
For Farmers, the state government would provide agriculture loan up to Rs 10 Lakh. Fadnavis told the assembly that the Kopardi case was nearing closure and strict action would be taken.
